Process

From conversation to finished piece

Every commission follows the same four stages. Nothing is made until you have approved the design and materials.

  1. Stage 1

    Conversation

We begin with the person, occasion or idea behind the piece. You do not need a finished design, just a reason to begin.

  2. Stage 2

    Design

Christopher develops the idea with you, considering proportion, wearability, metal, gemstones and the details that will make it personal.

  3. Stage 3

    Selection and approval

You review the proposed design and chosen materials before anything is made. Work begins only when you are happy to proceed.

  4. Stage 4

    Making and presentation

Your approved design is made in England, then checked and presented to you as a finished piece created for you.

Budget and timescale

What to expect

Budget

Every commission is individually considered and quoted. Your budget helps Christopher guide the scale, gemstones, precious metal and design choices from the outset. Those decisions are discussed openly, and you will receive a clear quotation before you approve the design and making begins.

You do not need to know what each element should cost before the first conversation.

Timescale

The time required depends on the design, gemstone sourcing and complexity of the piece. If it is intended for a proposal, anniversary or other important date, tell Christopher at the first conversation. Starting early gives the best choice and allows the piece to be designed and made without unnecessary pressure.

A realistic schedule will be discussed before you commit.

The record behind the piece

Your commission comes with its own SmartReport

A bespoke piece carries details that should not disappear once it leaves the studio. Every completed Christopher Stoner bespoke commission includes a SmartReport™: a detailed digital record of the piece, its design, materials, gemstones, photographs and relevant supporting information.

You can access the record through ValuVault™, giving you one place to retain the documentation that supports ownership, insurance, future care and provenance.

  • The piece clearly identified and documented.
  • Important specifications and supporting files kept together.
  • A record designed to remain useful throughout ownership.

FAQs

Bespoke jewellery questions

What does bespoke jewellery mean?

Bespoke jewellery is designed from the beginning for one person and one purpose, rather than chosen from existing stock. With Christopher, the design, gemstones, metal and proportions are worked out with you, so the finished piece reflects the person it is for and the way it will be worn.

Do I need to have a finished design in mind?

No. Many commissions begin with a feeling, an occasion or a piece of jewellery someone already loves. Christopher’s role is to help you shape that starting point into a design. If you have sketches, photographs or a clear idea, bring them. If not, a conversation is enough to begin.

Will I work directly with Christopher?

Yes. You work personally with Christopher from the first conversation to the finished design. He listens to the brief, develops the design with you and guides the decisions on gemstones, metal and detail, so you are not passed between people while the piece takes shape.

Can a piece be designed around a particular person or occasion?

Yes, that is often where a commission begins. A milestone birthday, an anniversary or a piece simply for yourself can all shape the design. Christopher will ask about the person, how they live and what they already wear, so the jewellery suits them as well as the occasion.

Where is the jewellery designed and made?

Each piece is designed in Harrogate, where Christopher meets clients at his studio in Windsor House, Cornwall Road, by appointment. Once you have approved the design, it is made in England. You see and approve the design and materials before anything is made.

How do I begin a bespoke commission?

Start a conversation through the enquiry page, call Christopher on 07940 295070 or send a message on WhatsApp. Tell him a little about the person, the occasion and the budget you have in mind. Every commission is individually quoted, and the first conversation is where the brief takes shape.

Does my bespoke piece come with documentation?

Yes. Every completed bespoke jewellery commission includes a SmartReport recording the piece’s design, materials, gemstones, photographs and relevant supporting information. You can access it through ValuVault and retain it as part of the piece’s continuing history.

What shall we make?

You do not need a finished idea. A conversation is enough.
