The Sapphire

This is me indulging my love of old jewellery.

I wanted a big, beautiful royal-blue sapphire in rich yellow gold, surrounded by tiny gold granules, milgrain and old-cut diamonds.

Something that looks wonderfully luxurious without being overly polished or perfect.

The contrast is what makes it for me: that intense blue against warm yellow gold.

I’d make this one using traditional techniques and I’d want the details to reward you for looking closely. It’s the sort of ring you keep discovering.

It hasn’t been made, and when it is, I don’t want to make ten of them.

I’d rather make one extraordinary one.
